- Normally, non-native teachers give Spanish classes in their mother tongue. With us you will learn how to teach a class completely in Spanish to students of different nationalities
It doesn’t matter if you are a native speaker or not:
- Discover different Spanish teaching contexts, from private academies to compulsory education institutes and universities
- Obtain information about new resources and teaching methods to complement and improve your work
- The course is both theoretical and practical and you, as a participant, will not only be able to update your knowledge but also reflect on your own educational experiences and exchange ideas with the other participants
- Share the experience of being in Tenerife with professionals who love their work and enjoy it as much as our students do
Course Programme
Methodological approaches in teaching Spanish as a second language
This first day consists of the introduction of the participants and the presentation of their work contexts. We will establish the guidelines for the observations of the classes that the school has available that week and we will present the theoretical framework that will serve as the basis of the course.
New technologies applied to education
ICTs have become fundamental tools for our students’ learning. The intention of this lesson is to learn about resources that will help to develop digital competence in the classroom and we will do it using our own material for this course as an example. Yes! The material included in this course is an interactive book that you can consult whenever you want and that will always be kept up to date.
The role of grammar in the classroom
Grammar should not be the focus of classroom explanations. It should be treated as the raw material that our students use to communicate effectively. We will look at the main problems that Spanish grammar poses to students from a cognitive approach.
Gamification
We have the methodology, the tools and the raw material with which we work in a Spanish for foreigners class. Now we will see that the best way to contextualise the real use of the language in the classroom is with games that make learning fun, allow us to practice the language and keep our students motivated.
Assessment in the classroom of Spanish as a foreign language
Meaningful assessment of learning is the culmination of the teaching process. We will study the different ways of assessing the achievement of the objectives of a course. We will also discuss the official DELE and SIELE certifications: the structure and development of the tests, the preparation of the students and the differences that characterise them.
