    • Can I retake the DELE exam if I fail?

      Of course! However, you would need to pay the registration fee again and sign up for a new date. 

    • Can I take the DELE exam online?

      No, only in the exam centers. 

    • How can I prepare for the DELE exam?

      There are many options. You can prepare for the exam by studying grammar and vocabulary and practicing with the sample papers. Check all the information we have about the preparation process here.

    • How can I register for the DELE exam?

      Registration happens through the portal of Instituto Cervantes. There are no other ways. Check our post with detailed instructions. 

    • How is the DELE exam graded?

      Each exam is graded differently. To see the criteria for your level go to the Instituto Cervantes website - choose your level for the DELE exam - and see the exam's full guide.

    • How long does it take to get the results of the DELE exam?

      Candidates will receive their DELE test results within approximately three months.

    • How much does the DELE exam cost?

      The exam costs from 112€ to 228€, depending on the level of Spanish proficiency you are taking. Consult our blog post for specific information. 

    • How often is the DELE exam offered?

      7 times a year! But beware, not all levels are offered at every convocation, so be sure to check the options for the level you need and register well in advance. See our blog post for specific dates and registration links. 

    • Is DELE recognized internationally?

      The DELE Spanish diploma is valid indefinitely and is internationally recognized.

    • What are the benefits of obtaining a DELE certificate?

    • What are the levels of the DELE exam?

      Its levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

    • What is the DELE exam?

      The DELE is the official diploma of Spanish as a foreign language awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.
      The DELE diploma certifies a candidate's proficiency in Spanish worldwide, regardless of the center or study method.
      The DELE Spanish diploma is valid indefinitely and is internationally recognized.
       

    • What is the validity period of the DELE certificate?

      The DELE Spanish diploma is valid indefinitely.

    • Who can take the DELE exam?

      The Instituto Cervantes accepts applications for the DELE general exams from all those who pay the corresponding registration fees, regardless of nationality or origin.

  • Visa Information
    • Do you provide an admission letter for my student visa application?

      Once you have made a reservation and paid the initial fee, we will send you an admission letter. Before attending your visa appointment, we recommend that you pay the full course amount, as your visa may not be granted otherwise.

    • How long does it take until I get my visa?

      You should apply for a student visa at least two months before your arrival in Spain. Your application may take up to 6 weeks to process.

    • I might need a student visa. I would like to study Spanish for one year, is this possible?

      Yes, it is possible. The requirement for a student visa is to enroll in at least 20 sessions of classes per week (or 80 sessions per month).

    • In case of visa refusal, would you refund the total amount I have paid?

      If the student's visa is refused, the school will charge 150€ and refund the remaining amount once we receive an original VISA refusal letter from the Embassy; otherwise, no refund will be given. FU International Academy can take no responsibility if the visa application is rejected.

    • Is your school accredited?

      Our school is accredited by the Instituto Cervantes, making our intensive courses valid for your student visa application.

    • What do I have to do to prepare for my visa application?

      Upon receiving your booking, we will send you a confirmation and an invoice for the language course and accommodation. At that time, you should pay 100% of the invoice amount. We will send you the course admission letter for the Spanish Embassy or Consulate once the invoice has been fully paid.

    • What happens if by the time my course should start I don’t have any news about my student visa?

      It is possible to postpone the start date for an additional fee.

    • Who should I contact if I decide to study at your school?

  • Booking & Payment
    • Can I pay with a credit card?

      Certainly. We encourage you to use PayPal, which allows you to pay with a debit or credit card. Purchases are easy and secure with PayPal.

    • How far in advance should I book?

      To ensure a place on the Spanish course, book as soon as possible. Last-minute bookings are accepted until Friday 12:00 p.m.

    • I am interested in booking a course of Super-Intensive 30h for a complete beginner. Would you be able to tell me how long this course takes? I can only come and stay for 2 weeks max so I wanted to ask whether you offer 2-week courses.

      Beginner courses are offered twice a month. Depending on the number of lessons per week, we offer Intensive 20h or 30 language courses. There are different levels for each course type, ranging from beginners A1 to proficiency C2. A1 - beginners level can be booked for a minimum of 1 week, so you can book 2, 3 or even more weeks.

    • I would like to book one week of Super-Intensive 30h, and one week of Intensive 20h + surf lessons. Do I have to book the courses separately and pay the registration fee twice?

      You can add as many courses as you want and also activities such as surfing. The registration fee will only be charged once and is valid for life.

    • If I cannot come on Monday is it possible to reschedule or pay less?

      Students who have booked an Intensive Course cannot postpone it. Individual lessons will be rescheduled.

    • What are your payment methods?

      You can either pay via PayPal or bank transfer.

    • What does UE mean?

      UE means “Unterrichtseinheit” in German, “teaching units” in English.

    • What type of credit cards do you accept?

      Visa and Mastercard.

    • When is the payment due?

      We require a deposit of 150€ to complete your registration for a course. The payment of the full course and accommodation amount can be made after registration if you wish. If not, you must pay the remaining balance at least 2 weeks before your arrival.

  • Activities
    • Can I bring a friend to one of the activities?

      You can bring a friend to the salsa lesson, yoga class, the Botanical Garden visit, and beach volleyball. Trial surf lessons are dependent on the number of participants.

    • Do I have to pay for the leisure activities?

      Visit to the botanical garden, welcome breakfast, goodbye drinks, beach volleyball, salsa, yoga, and Spanish culture lessons are all free.
      There is an additional charge for the trial surf lesson and weekend excursions.

    • Is there a gym near the school?

      There’s a gym in our building that offers special fees to our students. Once you have arrived, you can visit the gym and decide if you want to sign up.

    • What leisure time activities do you offer?

      We offer welcome breakfast every Monday, farewell every Friday, a visit to the Botanical Garden, salsa/bachata class, yoga class, surf, Spanish culture class, and beach volleyball. Sometimes we have more extra activities like excursions, wine tasting, or language exchanges (depending on the week). You will have updated information on Mondays.

  • Accommodation
    • Are meals included in the price?

      Shared apartments are only available with self-catering.
      Homestays include breakfast, half board, or full board depending on your booking.

    • Are there any locals living in the shared apartments?

      No, only our students share the apartments.

    • Can I rent an apartment if I am not a student in your school?

      The accommodation service is only available for our students.

    • How do I get the key to my apartment?

      Puerto de la Cruz has meeting points where you can pick up the key if you arrive on your own.
      If you have booked a transfer for your arrival, the driver will give you the apartment key.
      Keys are provided by the host family if you are staying with them.
      But don’t worry, with your booking confirmation and accommodation details, we will send you all the information you need.

    • How far away is the accommodation from the school?

      Depending on the type of accommodation, it can take 5-20 minutes to walk there.

    • How many people will I share the shared apartment with?

      Each apartment can accommodate up to four students.

    • Is it possible to change my accommodation type after my arrival?

      If you are not completely satisfied, you can request a change one time. It is subject to availability, of course.

    • My child is 16 years old, do they have to stay with a host family?

      Students under 18 years are required to stay with a host family or organize their own accommodation.

    • What is the best time to arrive at my accommodation?

      Check-in is on Sundays, however extra nights can be booked on request.

    • What type of accommodation do you provide for groups?

      It is recommended that groups stay in hotels or aparthotels where two or three students will share the same studio.

    • What would you recommend when it comes to accommodation – homestay or shared housing?

      People who choose to live in a SHARED FLAT should be adaptable and prepared to live with people from different cultures, nationalities, and backgrounds.

      Each tenant is responsible for keeping the apartment clean and tidy. It is expected that all tenants will respect each other and clean the kitchen and bathroom after using them.

      All common areas will be cleaned once a week by the school, but you are responsible for cleaning your room.

      In a shared flat, you are responsible for cooking for yourself, since catering is only available when staying with a host family. We recommend staying with a host family if you wish to train your Spanish after school, too. You might want to consider renting a shared apartment if you need a bit more privacy and independence.

  • Students
    • What are the conditions if you want to enroll in a class and you are younger than 18?

      The minimum age to participate in the intensive group courses is 16 years. Younger students can participate with their families or take private lessons.
      If students under 16 want to enroll in a class on their own, only host family accommodation is possible and parents or tutors must sign our parental consent when booking the program. No prior knowledge of Spanish is needed.

    • What’s the average age of the students?

      There are students of all ages at our school, ranging from 18 to 70 years old. The number of young students increases during the summer because they tend to take courses during school breaks.

    • How far is the school from the beach?

      The lovely natural beach Playa Martiánez is within 18-minute walking distance from school and Playa Jardín is a 32-minute walk, while Playa El Bollullo is around 40 minutes away, but it would be a nice hike through the banana plantations.

    • What about the area where the school is? What else can I find in the neighbourhood?

      The school is situated in the La Paz district, just across the street from the Botanical Garden. There are bars, restaurants and supermarkets nearby the school. The area is well connected by bus, the bus stop Jardín Botánico is just in front of the school.

    • What are your opening hours?

      The school’s reception is open from Monday to Friday from 08:45 until 16:00h.

    • What makes your institution better than the others?

      We gained a lot of experience since we opened in 2000, and in 2005 we became an Instituto Cervantes accredited school. Some of our teachers have been teaching for a minimum of six years. It's a very familiar atmosphere because our school is independent, it's not part of a big corporation. Many of our students return for another course after taking one with us.

  • Courses
    • Are textbooks included in the price?

      The homework book (grammar and exercises) is included in the course price. The textbook can be lent with a refundable deposit of 20 EUR or bought for the same price.

    • Are there any courses for beginners that are not intensive?

      In our range of courses we offer our clients Intensive group courses and Individual classes. If you won’t be able to attend classes everyday, we recommend that you book Individual classes.

    • Are there classes on the weekend or in the evening?

      Our courses at the school take place in the morning and/or afternoon. We offer online classes with our teachers during evenings or weekends. Please visit letsspeakspanish.com for that.

    • Can I bring a friend to the Spanish and Experience course?

      Yes, we can book the course for you and your friend. The prices on the website are per person.

    • Can I choose my teacher for my private lessons?

      We will consider your request about one particular teacher but we cannot guarantee that your lessons will be with one particular teacher.

    • Can I choose the course time for my private lessons?

      Usually, private lessons take place in the afternoon because the group courses take place in the morning.

    • Can I start anytime I want?

      Our courses start every Monday for all levels that have students during that week except for beginners. Beginner courses start on the first and third Monday of each month.

    • Can I switch classes if I think the level is not right for me?

      If necessary, the Academic Director will check your level again and help you.

    • Do I have to book the experience activities when I book a Spanish course?

      It is better to book the experience activities immediately so that we can ensure you a place. If you are not sure whether you want an activity or not, you can book it, later on, however, we cannot guarantee you a place then.

    • Do you offer classes suitable for a child and a parent?

      No, at this moment we don't offer such classes.

    • Do you offer summer camps for kids?

      No, at this moment we don't offer camps for kids.

    • Do you separate groups by the age of the students?

      No, except for young students (age 10-14) who have to take individual classes.

      There is a mix of nationalities and ages among the groups.

    • How big are the classes usually?

      Our groups have a minimum of 3 students and a maximum of 10.

    • How can I register for the DELE exam?

      You have to enroll on the Instituto Cervantes website: examenes.cervantes.es

    • How do I know which course level to enroll in?

      When booking, you will be asked to give an estimated level. After booking, you will be invited to take a short test so that we can assign you to the suitable group.

    • How early should I book a class? Is it possible to book last-minute, too?

      We recommend booking your course as soon as you have decided to participate. Last minute bookings may be possible depending on the number of students in our courses.

    • How much time do I need to learn Spanish?

      If you are an absolute beginner and want to learn a level that lets you understand and speak in everyday situations, you may need to take A1 and A2 course level, which takes 9 weeks of an intensive course in total.

    • In what language will the class be held?

      The lessons are held in Spanish. All our teachers are well trained and have extended experience in teaching Spanish to foreigners without any knowledge.

    • In which location will the DELE exam take place?

      In FU International Academy – Puerto de la Cruz.

    • Is it possible to book only one or two units of private lessons?

      No, new students have to book a minimum of 10 units.

    • Is the DELE exam very difficult?

      The difficulty of the exam is always adequate for the level you have signed up for. In our DELE preparation classes, our teachers will prepare you very well for the exam.

    • Is the inscription fee and the registration to the DELE exam included in the price?

      No, they have to be paid separately.

    • Is there a minimum level for the business Spanish?

      Yes, you need to have a minimum level of A2 to enroll in these lessons.

    • Is there a minimum level students have to have to enroll in one of the intensive courses?

      General Spanish (I20 and I30) – all levels A1 – C2.
      Business or Tourism & Hospitality – minimum level A2.

    • Is there a minimum number of private lessons that I have to book?

      You have to book a minimum of 10 private lessons, up to as many as you like. You can choose how many lessons you want to do per week.

      One lesson takes 45 min, but each session can consist of more than one lesson.

    • What books and materials will be used during the Business lessons?

      We use “Socios 1 and 2” and “Expertos” for the Business lessons.

    • What books and materials will be used during the course?

      We use a grammar book called Vente A1, Vente A2, Vente 2 (B1), Vente 3 (B2), C de C1, and Nuevo prisma C2. Additionally, teachers have additional resources they use to explain or practice material.

    • What books and materials will be used during the DELE preparation course?

      You will be working with “Edelsa DELE preparación al Diploma de Español” (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2 depending on your level).

    • What books and materials will be used during the Tourism and Hospitality course?

      We use the book “Turismo (Sgel)” and also our own material.

    • What content will be taught in my class?

      The content of the courses depends on the level, but all classes focus on improving the fluency of speaking, listening, reading and writing Spanish. Every Monday your teacher will explain the content and all the topics you will be taught during the week.

    • What experiences do you offer?

      Surf course – 4 days a week from Tuesday to Friday.

      Paragliding – 1 Tandem flight (20 – 30 minutes).

      Diving:
      PADI Open Water Diver (Beginner)
      PADI Open Water Diver (Advanced)

      You must do the theoretical part of the course online at home before arrival. Once you are in Tenerife, the practical training takes 1 week.  The school will provide access to the online platform once you have booked and paid for the course.

    • What happens if there aren’t enough students enrolled for the course?

      If only one or two students have enrolled in a group course, the course will still take place. However, we will reduce the teaching time to 75% (two students) or 50% (one student). Courses may start in the morning or in the afternoon. FUIA reserves the right to schedule the lessons at the most suitable time. This also applies to individual lessons.

    • What is the 50 EUR registration fee for?

      The registration fee is an organisation fee. The registration fee has to be paid only once in a lifetime.

    • What is the difference between a general Spanish class and the Business Spanish course?

      The general Spanish course’s main goal is to improve fluency, focusing on speaking, listening, reading and writing Spanish.

      This Business course is designed to teach you to communicate effectively in Spanish in professional contexts. You will expand your Spanish vocabulary, improve your ability to write and speak in Spanish in both social and professional interactions, and learn terminology and skills that you can apply at business negotiations, telephone conversations, written reports and emails, and professional presentations.

    • What is the difference between a general Spanish class and the Tourism and Hospitality course?

      The general Spanish course’s main goal is to improve fluency, focusing on speaking, listening, reading and writing Spanish.

      The Tourism and Hospitality course focuses on specific vocabulary and communication skills related to the various fields within the tourism and hospitality industry such as hotels, travel agencies and car rental services.

    • What is the difference between the Intensive 20 and Super-Intensive 30 courses?

      The difference between the courses is that in Super-Intensive 30 you will have more time to study. The additional 10 sessions focus on conversation and you will receive an “in-depth study” of the content learned before.

    • What level will I have after I have finished my intensive course?

      It depends on the level you have when starting the course and on the number of weeks you participate in class.

      A1 – 4 weeks
      A2 – 5 weeks
      B1 – 7 weeks
      B2 – 8 weeks
      C1 – 11 weeks
      C2 – 13 weeks

    • What should I bring to class?

      All you need is something to write notes on and a pen.

    • What Spanish Program structure will I follow during my course?

      The main goal of the Spanish course is to improve fluency focusing on speaking, listening, reading and writing in Spanish.

    • What time do the courses start?

      Usually, the group courses start at 09:00h, however, the time depends on how many students we have for a certain group. If we have to reduce the teaching time, the course may start later.

    • What timetable do the courses usually have?

      Intensive 20 – 09:00h until 12:15h.
      Super-Intensive 30 – 09:00h until 14:00h.
      Please note that the teaching time will be reduced if there are less than 3 students in one class.

    • Where can I find the accreditation letter and the list of accredited Spanish-courses, valid for educational leave (Bildungsurlaub)?

      If you need an accreditation copy of your region for your employer, we can send it to you via email.

      We always recommend you to ask your employer for permission for the educational leave at least 3 months before the course starts. Once you have pre-booked your course, you will receive a confirmation of your course reservation for your employer.

    • Which books and materials will be used in private lessons?

      In the private classes, we will use the same books and materials as in the group classes, but you will be the one who sets the pace at which we advance. If you prefer to focus on conversation or you have other topics or content you would like to work on, these are the perfect classes to do so. We will adapt the classes to your needs and what you would like to learn. Remember that if these classes are a complement to an Intensive 20 or Intensive 30 you will not be able to advance the contents of your intensive course-level planning.

    • Will there be class on national holidays?

      The classes that take place during the weeks that have one holiday will not be made up. You will receive a discount for that week. In the event that two public holidays fall in the same week, the classes corresponding to one of the days will be recovered during the same week.

      If there is a public holiday on a Monday the course begins on Tuesday.

    • Will there be homework?

      Yes, some teachers may give assignments to be completed after class.
      Students are welcome to ask for additional material to practice at home.
