Why FU International Academy?

What Makes Us a Good Place to Study Spanish?

Spanish is the only language we teach

Not like most of our competitors who offer other languages to learn besides Spanish, we are 100% dedicated to teaching Spanish only.

Since 2000, we have specialised in teaching Spanish, so all of our staff are extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to the subject.

The perfect place for learning Spanish

Located next to the beautiful Botanical Garden and within a 20 min walk to the beaches and the city center, our school in Puerto de la Cruz is a quiet, relaxing environment for studying Spanish.

Our school is equipped with all you need for a productive day. In our bright and welcoming classrooms, we use modern techniques to teach you Spanish in a diverse and interactive way. Spend your lunch break soaking up the sun on our big sunny terrace and refresh your energy enjoying a barraquito (Canarian coffee specialty) in our own cafeteria, called FU Café.

When studying with us in Puerto de la Cruz you’re joining the most popular Spanish language school in the Canary Islands. What are you waiting for?

Spanish School from Above

You find us in the green north of Tenerife

The landscape in the North is uniquely beautiful. The beaches have black volcanic sand and are often located below steep cliffs. In this region everything is very green and fertile as winter showers refresh the landscape. The Orotava Valley can sometimes be cloudy compared to the South which is generally a few degrees warmer.

Our school is located in Puerto de la Cruz which retains its old world charm as a local fishing port. Here, life has a gentle pace and tourism mingles harmoniously with everyday Spanish life. Around the main town square, La Plaza del Charco, there are numerous restaurants and bars and it is the focal point for the many traditional local fiestas.

Also in the north is the lively university town of La Laguna. With its beautiful historical centre, it obtained UNESCO world cultural heritage status some years ago. It’s only 25 minutes by bus from Puerto de la Cruz.

From Salsa to Surf - There’s always something going on

In our school, life never gets boring and no one need feel alone. We are open all year and our students come from all over the world, even over Christmas and New Year.

After the lessons, we offer a variety of leisure activities. Salsa, yoga, beach volleyball, and a visit to the Botanical Garden are some of our most popular options.

The absolute highlight is the surf instruction course. You can try surfing for two hours with professional instructors for just €15.

Experienced, qualified and super friendly Teachers

teachers

Each and every one of our teachers is not only highly-qualified in teaching, but they’re all native speakers!

All of our Spanish teachers have completed a special university training program (Master’s degree). Additionally, they are all native speakers with many years of teaching experience.

Besides qualifications, we also prioritise having friendly teachers! The best way to learn is from a native who you can have REAL conversations with. Which is why we make sure all of our teachers are chatty and fun to work with.

Our staff are all here because they love helping students to advance their skills. We also choose people who want to work with us long term, meaning you can make lasting friendships with your teachers year on year!

Classroom learning is better when it's FUN

Our teachers always enjoy teaching and our students have a lot of fun in the classroom.

They get to play and interact with their colleagues and teachers. That makes the learning process stress-free, relaxed, and enjoyable.

Our teaching methods are the perfect successful mix

We also choose staff who can bring new teaching methods and ideas into our school, which is why our teaching methods are always advancing.

Gamification, cognitive grammar, constructivism, social learning, the flipped classroom method, spaced (regular) repetition, and constantly measuring progress are methods that are part of our teaching arsenal.

Keeping motivated is a matter of Upleveling week after week.

We re-divided the European Framework of Reference for Foreign Languages (CEFR) and the American Company for the Teaching of Languages (ACTFL) into 24 levels (from A1 to B2, from beginner to fluency).

We call it the 24 Level System to Spanish Fluency®.

Each level is subdivided into different sub-levels, for example: A1.1, A1.2, A1.3, A1.4, then B1.1, etc.

After one week of intensive Spanish classes with us, you finish one sub-level.

You don’t just want to speak Spanish fluently, you want to reach the highest level possible?

It is possible to achieve this goal after completing 48 sub-levels in our “48 Level System to Spanish Mastery“.

We’ve Reached New Levels of Quality

Every Friday we get the confirmation of just how good we are

We ask all students to fill in an online questionnaire so they can evaluate the quality of their experience at the Academy.

We make a point of reviewing them all. With over 25 points we ask for marks from 1 – 5. If we get a review lower than “good” or “very good” – we discuss this with the person responsible.

We have been implementing this review system since 2004 and have learned a lot from this feedback from clients.

The result is that almost 100% of our clients are completely satisfied with the service we offer.

How Can You Be Sure We Offer You a Quality Spanish Course?

When you’re searching for a Spanish course online, it can be hard to trust that you’re going to get what you’re paying for.

There’s so many Spanish schools and courses available, but how can you tell the legitimately good schools from the bad ones? That’s where accreditations come in.

An accreditation means someone from that particular organisation has assessed the school and decided they’re good enough to carry their stamp. No one wants to put their name on a bad school so the criteria for each accreditation is comprehensive, to ensure quality teaching.

Centre Accredited By Instituto Cervantes

Two key accreditations to look out for are Instituto Cervantes and ISO 9001. This is because the Instituto Cervantes are the main authority on Learning Spanish in Spain and therefore only endorse the best schools in the country (they are the DELE examiners after all, so they know what they’re talking about!).

Being ISO certified shows that a business has demonstrated their ability to fulfill customers needs and that they have an effective quality management system to monitor their standards. At FUIA we have both of these important accreditations along with a few others!

We’re proud of our language school and as you can see by the list when you click on the button below, we have reason to be!

But Are We Really All That Different from Other Language Schools?

If you just look at our classes, or the language we teach, we certainly have similarities to other language schools. However, when you look at our school as a whole, you can see we offer not just a language course but an experience.

Whatever attracts you to our school, teaching quality, excellent customer service, fun activities or sandy beaches, you can be assured your experience here will be like no other. Don’t just take a Spanish course, make memories and get the most out of being in a Spanish speaking country!

That’s what makes us unique.

Are you excited to enroll in one of our courses?
